How I made it.

Firstly I came up with the idea to make a flappy bird animation as the game was very popular around the time that i was creating the animation. To create the animation I used a programme called iStopmotion which with a webcam attactched lets me takes a number of photos which is then put into a timeline and played back to you at 12 FPS (Frames Per Second). To actually create the models for the animation was I used several peices of card to make the background. I cut different colours from different card to make the scenery for the background. Then to make the bird all I did was printed a picture of good of the bird and cut it out. When recording it I placed my two pieces of card I was using as the background infront of two computer monitors so they would stand up and used blue tack to make the bird stick to the card. Finally becasue the webcam camera was not abl to be put on a tripod all I did was stand it on a table faceing the computer screens where the card with my animation was on was.

1990-Present

Clay - Morph
Morph has been around since 1977 and is still around today. It is a clay based stop motion animation. This is where about 25 pictures to make up one seconds and in them frames they move the model what ever it may be to how they want it and after they have a few seconds they can play it back and it will look like the model is moving. It was created peter lord. It is about a small person shaped piece of clay. Every show is different and it never really has a perspose, all of the shows are just different sketches. It is produced by Aardman Animation who is now more famous for Wallace and Grommet.

Time Lapse - The Matrix
The Matrix was a film that was releced in 1999. It was directed by Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski and in the movie there was a time lapse sequence this is where so many pictures are took in a certain amount of time. Examples of these would be videos where there has been a camera attaced to the front of a car as it drives and there will be a picture took every minute or two. When they are all put together and played back it will look like what ever is happening really fast. But the camera must stay on a stable serface. In The Matrix it was not a tipical time lapse as I have just explained, in the film there were lots of cameras set up in a rotating line and as the first camera goes off the second camera goes off straight after and so on. Putting all the phtotos together makes it look like a very cool time lapse effect where it is slown down and it can go around the actor.

Cell Based - The Simpson
Cell based animation is for cartoons, To make these, animators draw the back ground on paper then draw all of the characters and things that moves on clear sheets of plastic that it is easier to draw the next frame so that he can see the background and also the last thing he had drawn. He repeats this process to create the whole cartoon once all of the frames have been drawn a picture is took of all the individual frames and put in the computer and put together so it makes a episode. An example of this would be The Simpsons this is one of the best known cartoons of all time, and this is cell based. These days it is all created using computer animation software.

Cut Out - South Park
South Park was originally created in 1997. Originally it was all cut out characters then stop motion was used to record it as the cut outs needed to be moved ever so slightly every frame. Recently it has all been created on a computer as most modern cartoons are like this now even the cut out ones. South Park was a very offensive cartoon designed for adult because of all of the crude and offensive language in it. Trey Parker, Matt Stone are creators of the black comedy south park.

My Future Animation

For my assignment I need to create a 30 seconds stop motion animation of my choice, either from:

  • Pixilation
  • Model Based
  • Cut Out
  • Time Lapse
I have been thinking of a idea of a game with cut out animation called flappy bird. The idea of the animation is to make it look like the game by creating a back ground then also the green tubes and also the bird out of card. It will look like the game as i will be moving the bird forwards through the green tubes until it hits one and falls then the game will be over. At the end it will show your high score on a screen I have made from cut out card.

Time Lapse

Time lapse is a series of photos took over a period time. Time lapse has also been used in movies such as 'The Matrix' Time lapse takes a long period of time to create. When recording time lapse you have to keep the camera still on a tripod so the camera won't have moment when the video is played back. It is taking one photo ever 10 seconds or every 10 minutes or anything you want and played back at 24-30 FPS (frames per seconds). Time lapse can be used for a variety of different scenarios such as recording a sun set, as it will take picture ever so often which will allow the sunset to played in a much quicker speed.
